35 Weeks

Well.....the plane ticket has been gotten.  I am leaving on Monday, September 24th for Houston.  I should have like a million appointments the week I get there; like an OB apppointment,  neo consult, NICU tour, social work consult (whatever thats for--idk?), sono, etc etc.

I am HOPING that they will schedule an induction date so that Shawn will have plenty of time and notice to get there.  You would think that they would have to schedule it so that the medical team could be there and ready.  (CDH moms---was that the case with you?) I am due October 18th but hoping it is a little before that.

I am getting really nervous, sad, scared---mainly about leaving my boys.  I know Shawn will be ok and that I will see him in a few weeks.  But I hate the thought of being away from them for SO long.  I think I will be a mess driving to the airport that day.  I tear up just thinking about it.

Sunni is doing well.  I have had a weekly sonogram which has been great.  We got some AWESOME pictures of her last week on my birthday.  It made me SO excited to see her.  Today she weighed 5 lbs 2 oz which is a definite good thing.  I am thinking over 8lbs by the time she is here?  I have one more appointment next week in Amarillo and then I am done.  She has been practicing "breathing" way better and more often since the last time I posted.  She even got hiccups for the first time a couple nights ago.  It made me smile.

I have had a tremendous amount of people ask what they can do for me.  The answer is "I am not really sure."  And that's the truth.  A friend just asked me earlier today about meals and my friends signing up to bring food to the boys and Shawn while I am gone.  That was really sweet.  I will see what happens with that and let everyone know.  The only other way I can think of to help is that if you are someone that comes in contact with my kiddos please give them extra loving.  and if you are really feeling energetic you might could take them off my moms hands for a while to play.

I know I always say this but THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PRAYERS!  I feel them everyday.  I have already become a stronger person and know half of that is all of you standing beside me and praying for me.  Please pray for this transition my family will be making in a little over a week.  Also pray for Sunni and her heart and lungs.  Thank you all :)

I will probably update a few more times before Sunni actually arrives but when she does get here I will keep everyone posted almost daily.  I read tons of CDH blogs and it has really helped me become aware and prepared for what is to come.  I hope to do the same for other moms after me.  I also want to keep my family, friends, and coworkers updated as much as possible.

And now here she is, my precious baby girl, Sunni Nicole :)

  1. Prayers, prayers, prayers....the first steps are so hard. You are preparing for it all as best you can. Rest well and love your family a little extra. This will be a tough journey but know that we are all praying and cheering Sunni (and all of you) along the way.

  2. Fellow CDH mom here!
I had a scheduled csection so I would think your doctor would schedule your induction. If not, don't worry....labor and deliver will have a copy of your file so they know exactly who to contact when you go into labor. There will be a NICU team waiting outside your room when the time comes!

Word of advice....bring some tissues with you when you tour the NICU...it can be overwhelming! When I had the tour at TCH there were 2 CDH babies in there and I lost it!

  3. Hi Whitney, I'm still here waiting on Sunni along with you. :)

There will be a NICU team ready for you regardless of when Sunni decides to come. Those folks work 24-7. There was an unbelievable number of people in the room when Samuel was born. I knew he was in good hands with them and felt deeply the presence of God holding us all. Make sure they know Sunni's name and whether you want your husband to be with her or you. Ask for a nurse to take photos for you - we had a student nurse who offered to stay after shift and do this and she got the only pictures of Samuel before he was intubated and a picture of my husband kissing him before they took him to the NICU. Priceless.

Social work consult is so that you know what is available to you in the way of support - funding for travel, places for your family to stay, wi-fi in the hospital, parent support meetings, hospital library - all kinds of resources that they can hook you up with. Use it. And use the support at home too. Say YES to food brought to your family a few nights a week, food gift certs for you at the hospital, zoo passes for someone to take the kids... all good.

Sending love and strength to you. Skype, write, love those boys. You can do this.
